How do i get my Pool pump to run at 230 volts? ?
I just purchased and installed a 3/4 HP Pentair WhisperFlo (WFE-3). I do not think that my pump is running at 230 volts becasue the water flow out of the outlet is very weak. (compared to the previous WFE-3 i had on there) I have three wires comming from my timer and going to the pump. A green wire, which i grounded, a white wire (neutral) I hooked this one to L2, and a black wire which i hooked to L1. From my understanding, to get 230 volts, BOTH wires running to the pumps L1 and L2 must have 115V each. However, I checked the voltage with an ohmmeter and discovered that only the black wire was energized when the timer circuit is closed. The white wire is never energized regardless of whether the circuit is closed or not. It appears that my timer is originally made for a 120v setup. So my question is: What do i need to do with the wiring either inside the pump or on the timer in order to get the pump to run at 230V.

well all of the genius's on this site are wrong....most pool pumps are wired where you can use 110 or 220......the problem is the lead from the house is 110.....you could (have an electrician) run 220 from the panel.......but i have to say in my years of building pools i havent seen an amazing dif between running the pump 220 vs. 110......i think it is more to save electricity.....the same 3/4 horse pump in a hayward pump actually pumps more water.....(pentair is the cheapo).....dont get me wrong i use them but....look....the inlet on the pump and outlet plumbing is very important.....you need at least 12-14 inches of straight run (in pipe to get full power...most people 90 right off the front or top......also as little turns as possible is best in plumbing.....good luck and to get more bang for your buck look into a larger filter(100sq.ft. or bigger for most pools) or a new cartridge.......that can slow down the flow bigtime....good luck....
