We need to put a sediment filter in our house, which is on a well. What kind is best, and where does it go?
Plumbing forums tell us that sediment filters should not be put between the well and the pressure tank. Is that true? also, is this a job that I can do, or should I leave it to a plumber. The amount of sediment isn't great, but it does clog up the washing machine metal filter on the cold water intake, and the kitchen sink faucet.

Roger, ya I'm on a well also, i went alittle overboard , what i did was, (after pump , before pressure tank), use 2 large particle filters first and then 2 fine filters, you can go to home depot and they can set you right up with directions and material, It took me about 2hrs to do it , the filters are fairly cheep , i found that it works great, but like i said i went over board on it. you can screw the hole system into the wall,(put a piece of 2x4 in first so the filters are not flush on the wall), you will be able to get to the filters alot easier.I hope this helps you a bit.
