When looking for replacement options, first look to your filter's manual for manufacturer and model type, then go to the manufacturer's website for information on replacement cartridges.
Also, consult the local hardware stores and the internet search engines for replacement cartridge options. Local small "mom and pop" hardware stores and discount websites often have the best deals. However, be sure to purchase manufacturer approved water filter replacement cartridges to ensure optimal performance of your water purification system.
Alternatively, you might consider water filtration replacement programs, such as those provided by Aquasana. Every six months companies like Aquasana will mail you replacement cartridges automatically, at a reasonable price. I find these programs very helpful, since the correct types of water filter replacement cartridges are sent to my house on a regular and timely basis, which also helps me to remember replacing the cartridges at least twice a year.
When replacing your filter, you may also consider replacing your water filtration system completely, especially if your current system is more than three or four years old. As mentioned, you may opt for a system (like Aquasana's) that sends the filters on a regular basis. Or you may opt for another, newer type of system. Most modern systems nowadays have the latest features as well as improvements to the older features, such as reverse-osmosis filtration.

Above ground pool cartridge filter returning green water???
When I hook up the vacuum on my Intex above ground pool, as i'm trying to vacuum the algae from the bottom, it is just as quickly being sent back in through the return. I have replaced that filter cartridge, and it still does this. Before I can get half wat through vacuuming it, the water is too cloudy to see the bottom. Before I start vacuuming, the water is clear and all the green/brown is on the bottom. Why is the green crud coming back in through the return?
This is an above ground pool with a paper filter cartridge. There is no option on the pump to switch to "waste" and I put shock it in the pool once a week and change the filter once a week.
And since this is a pump with a filter cartridge, not a sand filter, there is no backwash option.
Answer:
Just a suggestion. Walmart sells a $20 vacuum that hooks up to your water hose. It works awsome. They also sell this stuff called Shock It. Works good.
