Replace a Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator Water Filter

Need a Jello Shooters Recipe?

Jello shots! Hadn't thought about them for years. I can see them now; dozens of tiny cups glowing with color, ready for an "end-of-exams" celebration. We were impoverished students and jello shots were cheap to make, fun to drink and were the essential ingredient for a dorm party. And everyone had their own jello shot ideas.

They're still fun. Although if I were to make them today, I would use a better grade of alcohol than the harsh, throat-searing stuff we could afford back then. Here's how to make decent jello shots and we'll start with the important ingredient – the alcohol.

Vodka is the best choice as it's colorless and almost tasteless. But we need a good quality vodka so ignore the cheaper stuff on the bottom shelf; ours should come from the middle or even the top shelf in the liquor store. In this choice lies the success or failure of our endeavors. Put the bottle in the freezer the day before you need to use it – it won't freeze, but will be as cold as ice which is what we want. To make thirty-two one ounce shots, we shall need,

  • one six ounce package of jello;
  • two cups of water – use filtered water if possible;
  • our icy cold bottle of vodka; at least 37% alcohol by volume;
  • a trayful of those little one-ounce plastic cups from the party store, with lids for stacking  in the fridge.

We now mix sufficient vodka and water – the ratio is two cups water to two vodka - we're going to make our jello shots in smaller batches to ensure that it will set properly.  The volume of liquid should not exceed that stated on the side of the jello package. Bring the water to a boil and pour it over the jello powder in a bowl; stir until completely dissolved and allow it to reach room temperature before adding two cups of vodka. If you add the vodka while the jello mixture is still hot, you'll evaporate the vodka and we don't want that to happen, do we? Stir well and pour into the plastic cups and refrigerate for at least six hours – because of the alcohol content, they take a bit longer to set.

To eat/drink a jello shot, run a coffee stir-stick or a popsicle stick around the edge of the cup to loosen it and slurp it down like an oyster on the half-shell. Better still; put the sticks into the jello shots before they set. Paper cups work well too - just spray the insides with cooking oil to allow the shot to detach itself – although it's fun to lick them out as well. Try different flavors of jello if you're in a creative frame of mind – check out the following jello shooters recipes,

Margarita Jello Shots

A six-ounce package of lime jello, two cups boiling water, one and a half cups of white (not gold) tequila, quarter cup of Cointreau or Triple Sec and a quarter cup of fresh lime juice.

Pina Colada Jello Shots

A six-ounce package of pineapple jello, two cups boiling water, two cups Malibu (coconut) rum.

Rum and Cola Jello Shots

A six-ounce package cherry jello, one cup boiling water, one cup cold Coke, two cups light rum.

Champagne Jello Shots

A six-ounce package white grape jello (or just grape flavor), two cups boiling water, two cups champagne or sparkling wine.

Dreamsicle Jello Shots

A six-ounce package orange jello, two cups boiling water, two cups vanilla liqueur.

Only your levels of imagination and creativity can stand in your way. Try serving your jello shots in syringes or go online and find a site which sells squeezable jello shot cups with lids – you can get 500 of these for about $60. And if you need this many for your party, I am so going to be there!

Here one more idea for you . . . . . .

Jello Shot Orange Boats

Fresh oranges. A six-ounce package of orange jello, two cups boiling water, one cup and a half of vodka, six ounces of cold water.

Cut the oranges in half and scoop out the insides. Put the halves on a cookie sheet and dissolve the jello in the two cups of boiling water, stir till dissolved. Add the vodka and cold water and mix well. Pour it all into the orange halves and refrigerate well.

Once they've really set well, cut each orange half lengthwise into equal thirds and present your boats on a tray. Looks fantastic

Okay, here's just one more . . . . . .

Rainbow Jello Shots

Three different flavored six-ounce packages of jello. Prepare one packet, using half the recipe given above. Fill your plastic cups one-third full and allow them to set well. Repeat for the second package of jello and pour into the cups so that they are now two-thirds full. Do it again for the third jello package and your cups should now be full. Allow to set firmly – pretty!

You can choose one of the recipes above or let your creative juices flow and concoct your very own jello shooters recipe.

Folks, keep in mind that jello shots are not desserts or snacks! After a few of these, don't drive, skateboard, ride your bike or try to go downstairs. And now is not the time to set up your new HD TV with surround-sound.

Frequently Asked Questions...

can you use an outside filter on a refrigerator that has its own filter?

ive been using an outside filter with my refrigerator, but now we are gettin a new fridge. but most new fridges have their own filter built in(which i dont want to use becus they are tiny and more expensive n u have to change them more often) Can you use a filter that is outside the fridge so that the water pours out from the fridge. or do you have to use the filter thats built in. I asked 2 guys at home depot and sears and they weren't sure, which made me think what they were being paid for. anyways, thanx

Answer:

No. Each type of refridgerator has it's specific filter made especially for it. I own 3 houses, trust me, I've tried. Whirpool w whirpool, etc... The only one that is compatable w an outside filter was fridgadare and they were bought out so no more.
